MASTERPLAN -None of the stakeholders who, alongside the DA in 2022, criticised the Agricultural and Agro-processing Master Plan (AAMP) were invited to the AAMP Executive Oversight Meeting scheduled for 7 October in Stellenbosch. “This is an agricultural master plan without farmers,” said Dr Theo de Jager of SAAI and Bennie van Zyl of TLU-SA. “There is nothing in that plan to excite primary producers.” Their principal objection is that profitability, sustainability, and value-chain efficiency are not meaningfully addressed in the AAMP text.

The annual White Cross Memorial in October honors white farmers killed in the past year, featuring the planting of 34 crosses along the N1 highway near Mokopane, Limpopo, and a convoy of tractors with farming equipment. Kobus Witkruis of the Plaasmoorde Monument emphasized farmers' vital role as the nation's food providers for all races, calling the 34 deaths "heartbreaking" and often senseless, with some attacks involving no theft. He hopes for swift resolution to the violence.Established on June 16, 2004, the Plaasmoorde Monument commemorates victims of farm attacks (affecting both white and black farmers) with ~3,000 white metal crosses symbolizing lives lost since 1990. A central cluster of 925 crosses highlights the site's Christian ethos, while ~20 red crosses denote local casualties. The event underscores ongoing farm violence concerns in South Africa.

South Africa's 2025-26 winter wheat production is now forecast at 2.03 million tonnes, down marginally from the August estimate, but still up 5% from the same period last year. The annual improvement is boosted by the expected better harvest in the Northern Cape, Free State, Eastern Cape, and Limpopo. The Western Cape, which accounts for over half of South Africa's winter wheat production, is set to experience a mild decline in the harvest this year compared to the 2024-25 season because of the unfavourable weather conditions in some parts of the province. Farming isn’t your typical 9-to-5 gig. It’s a lifestyle that demands early mornings, late nights, and plenty of time operating machinery or walking the land. That’s where Audiocast shine. They’re hands-free, portable, and don’t care if you’re covered in dirt or steering through a muddy field. Unlike a book or a video, a Audiocast doesn’t ask you to stop what you’re doing—it joins you in the cab, the shed, or wherever the day takes you. And farmers are listening. Surveys suggest that a significant chunk of the agricultural community—some estimates say over a third—tune into ag-related podcasts regularly. Whether it’s catching up on market trends, learning about the latest in soil health, or just hearing a good story from another grower, these audio shows have become a go-to resource.

South Africa’s agriculture shows robust growth in 2025 (18.6% Q1, 2.5% Q2 GVA), driven by excellent 2024-25 harvests (19.94 million tonnes grains/oilseeds, +28% y/y) and optimistic sentiment (Agbiz/IDC ACI at 63), but uneven recovery persists, with livestock—half the sector's value—hammered by foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).

Hoofinvloede:
  • ENSO (La Niña): Niño 3.4-gebied effens koeler (-0,5°C vir tweede week), met neiging na volle La Niña (piek Desember, dan vinnig verswak). Versterk goeie reën in sentrale/oostelike dele Nov-Des, maar swakker vanaf Jan/Feb, veral wes.
  • Indiese Oseaan Dipool (IOD): Sterk negatief (koeler naby Afrika, warmer naby Australië)—laas in Okt 2022—bevorder reën in vroeë somer (Okt-Des).
