The FAO Food Price Index rose 1.6% to 130.1 points in July 2025, the highest since February 2023, though 18.8% below its March 2022 peak and 7.6% above July 2024. The increase was driven by gains in meat and vegetable oil prices, offsetting declines in cereals, dairy, and sugar. The Vegetable Oil Price Index jumped 7.1% to 166.8 points, a three-year high, fueled by strong global demand and higher prices for palm, soy, and sunflower oils. Rapeseed oil prices fell due to new European crop supplies. The Meat Price Index reached a new high of 127.3 points, up 1.2%, driven by strong demand for bovine and ovine meat from China and the US. Poultry prices rose slightly after Brazil regained avian influenza-free status, while pig meat prices dropped due to ample supply and weak EU demand.
