In Q2 2025, South Africa’s agricultural exports to the U.S. reached US$161 million, a 26% increase from Q2 2024, following a strong Q1 2015 performance of US$118 million (up 19% year-on-year). This growth, driven by an ample fruit harvest, quality wine production, and efficient port operations, reflects robust demand for citrus, fruit juices, wine, nuts, apricots, apples, pears, and grapes. Exporters capitalized on a 90-day pause in U.S. Liberation Tariffs to boost volumes. These exports represent 4% of South Africa’s total agricultural exports of US$3.71 billion, up 10% year-on-year

Black farmers in South Africa are facing significant barriers to expanding their agricultural production due to delays and lack of transparency in securing farm leases from the Department of Land Reform and Rural Development (DLRRD). These delays limit their productivity and contribution to food security. Farmers report repeated unsuccessful applications for land leases, with one farmer managing stud and commercial herds on 100ha and another, a poultry, bee, and vegetable farmer, constrained to 2,700m², unable to scale up to meet ambitions like producing 40,000 broilers per cycle or growing feed for goats.

The 2024/25 wool season closed with total receipts down 1.9% from the year before, according to a Cape Wools SA market summary, as drought and global jitters kept margins tight. The Eastern Cape led output at 33.5% of receipts, followed by the Free State (18%) and Western Cape (16.9%).  READ MORE

The Americas region accounted for 7% of South Africa's agricultural exports in the second quarter of the year. The main exported products include citrus, fruit juices, wine, nuts, apricots, apples, pears, and grapes. Given ongoing concerns about the higher tariffs South Africa faces in the U.S., it is worth highlighting that some exporters may have taken advantage of the 90-day pause of the higher tariffs and exported more volume than usual during that period. Farming isn’t your typical 9-to-5 gig. It’s a lifestyle that demands early mornings, late nights, and plenty of time operating machinery or walking the land. That’s where Audiocast shine. They’re hands-free, portable, and don’t care if you’re covered in dirt or steering through a muddy field. Unlike a book or a video, a Audiocast doesn’t ask you to stop what you’re doing—it joins you in the cab, the shed, or wherever the day takes you. And farmers are listening. Surveys suggest that a significant chunk of the agricultural community—some estimates say over a third—tune into ag-related podcasts regularly. Whether it’s catching up on market trends, learning about the latest in soil health, or just hearing a good story from another grower, these audio shows have become a go-to resource.

Hy was drie weke in aanhouding voordat hy op R100 000 borgtog vrygelaat is.
South Africa’s sugar cane industry, vital for rural livelihoods in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga, is under severe pressure from a 283% surge in cheap sugar imports (from 20,000 to 99,000 tonnes in the 2024/2025 season), displacing local production and forcing loss-making exports.

Down To Earth glo Afrika benodig ongeveer 33 000 miljard rand vir die oorgang teen 2030.

South Africa and China have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), focusing on research, innovation, and applications in education, agriculture, and public service delivery.

At a congress held in Rawsonville, Western Cape, in August 2025, panellists identified crime and corruption as the greatest threats to South African agriculture, surpassing concerns over land expropriation or black economic empowerment (BEE). These issues are stifling economic growth, causing job losses (24,000 in Q2 2025), and driving skilled workers away, eroding institutional knowledge.

In response to the 30% tariff recently implemented by the United States on all South African imports, including Rooibos, the South African Rooibos Council (SARC) has initiated a coordinated engagement with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) and the US Embassy to advocate for the tariff’s reduction or removal.

South Africa’s agricultural sector has significantly outperformed the broader economy over the past 20 years, despite rising input costs outpacing inflation and commodity prices.

The South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) has accused Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen of attempting to undermine its recent election process, calling on President Cyril Ramaphosa to intervene.

Black farmers in South Africa are facing significant barriers to expanding their agricultural production due to delays and lack of transparency in securing farm leases from the Department of Land Reform and Rural Development (DLRRD). These delays limit their productivity and contribution to food security.

The University of Pretoria (UP) has been ranked as South Africa’s top institution for artificial intelligence (AI) research by EduRank, based on an analysis of over 61,200 academic papers and 969,000 citations from 24 South African universities.
